The Cremorne Point Manor Christmas Party

Last Sunday, we had our annual Christmas party for the Cremorne Point Manor. Almost All the staff were there. We had a lovely meal at Waqu in Crows nest. (which I highly recommend). I thought I'd post a few photo's Taken by Andrina David. (thank you) Also Elly is in many of the Shots, but as you can see, she deserves to be in them.

Also I'd like to extend a sincere thanks to everyone involved in the hotel. Without your brilliant work throughout this year we could not have achieved the success we have. and I hope that 2013 is even better. Thank you

Jean-Claude

Bob in Oz, at Cremorne Point Manor

The internet Celebrity. Bob in Oz (ok, a little poetic licence). A Queensland based blogger. has recently stayed at the Cremorne Point Manor. He's written a review of the Manor and Sydney's North Shore. Being a Brit he headed straight for a pub. and managed to stumble upon the Sydney institution known as the Oaks. I'm sure he had a great time. Here is his review.

The shared shower annex rooms

People often ask about our shared shower rooms. They are the least expensive rooms in the hotel. I thought I would tell you a little about them.

Firstly they are small. They come in single and double beds and have a private toilet and sink. They may be small but they have a brand new LCD tv. DVD player.

Great bed and rate perfect for someone looking for a simple and clean place to stay. They have ceiling fans instead of air conditioning like the rest of the manor but apart from being compact they are really quite nice. There is a kettle and fridge.

All rooms also have the free continental breakfast. They are very popular. Now it's important to note the shower is not ensuite. It's a whole 3 meters down the hall and is shared between 2 rooms. They are spotlessly clean and are the same quality as our other rooms. So if you are looking for a lovely place to stay that won't break the bank. Check out our shared shower rooms.

King Harbour view room Cremorne Point Manor

Custom made toiletries

I travel a lot and since running the Cremorne Manor I've become very aware of the intricacies of those little shampoo's and conditioners that hotels have. They are important as we've all been in the situation where we have forgotten our favourite product.

We try to ensure our products are of the best quality and we custom design and have made our toiletries. From Soaps that are enriched with oatmeal to quality shampoo's and conditioners we try to ensure that they are as good as something you have at home.

A small guest

We have often Sulphur Crested cockatoo's coming to visit, but this guy seems to take liberties with our welcome.

It's Spring

It's officially arrived (sep 1st) but it's really arrived. The sky is clear. the temps this week are going to hit 25plus (celcius) and it's stunning at the manor and in Sydney. if you do get a chance when you stay. you must take the Cremorne Point Walk. it's one of the best kept secrets in sydney and offers amazing views. and in summer there is a secret  free pool that has simply the best location of any of Sydney's pools and it's free.

beds toilets or tv's

I heard recently that guests are more interested in the TV and how big it is, than the quality of the bed. now I find this hard to believe, but would be most open to feedback. I do plan to create in the next few weeks video's of every room category, including the toilets (tv's of course) and the wonderful beds we have (i've spent a lot on the quality beds). Do leave a comment if you wish.

Nothing to do with hotels but it's SOO damn cute

This has absolutely nothing to do with Cremorne point manor. But I just had to post it. In the Barossa Valley in South Australia an abandoned black and white lamb has been adopted by a Dalmatian. The photo's tell the story. Source ABC

WIFI WIFI WIFI...

I find it strange, the more expensive the hotel, the more they gouge you for wireless internet. I was out of town recently and stayed in a nameless branded hotel. In addition to no free breakfast, they had the gaul to charge $29.95 for a day of wireless internet.

Also it was slow. This brings me to the Cremorne Manor (obviously) as I've just spent a large amount of money to ensure great FREE wireless coverage for the whole hotel. We did have free wireless but it wasn't quite fast enough or complete enough for my liking. In case you didn't guess I'm quite tech savvy hence I'm always pushing for new technology. i.e. like our fancy NFC doorlocks (for another post).

Anyway it's great, We have high speed wireless for all guests with a simple password and no limits. it's just part of the small things we want to do ensure our guests are happy. Also if you are in house and have comments about the wireless, or anything else for that matter please contact me and tell me. I'll do my best to ensure it's as good or better next time.

North Sydney Mayoral Campaign

The Cremorne Point manor is obviously in Cremorne, However few people know that it's actually part of North Sydney Council LGA. I don't have a huge amount to do with the council and in the past have found them to be less than supportive of a local family run business, that's been around for 100 years (that story is for another day).

However a friend is running for Mayor and I not only agree with her policies I think she would make a great Mayor. Her team is smart and has great ideas, So I'm giving her a plug on my blog and if you happen to live in North Sydney and will be voting in the upcoming election (yes it's mandatory) check out Suzanne Clark-Nash and her website. Her team would be a breath of fresh air for North Sydney.

There is also a great facebook page (I should be plugging my own facebook page, I suppose too.)

Our Local wild Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's

Here's a little video post of the local Sulphur Crested Cockatoo's.

They visit the manor daily (sometimes multiple times a day). Ellie, One of our managers hand feed's them but I'm nervous of the giant finger crushing beak. ( not that they have done this, it's just my concern).

Anyway they are super friendly. wild birds and we feed them sunflower seeds which I've been told is ok as they have a similar diet in the wild. They do sometimes walk into the office to essentially demand food which has caused some concern for guests, but they are most happy when chomping on the seeds on the front porch

The hotel at night

I took this photo yesterday evening and I thought I'd share it. It shows the new sign on a lovely clear winters night.

Also I've got a little picture of a couple of Sulfur Crested Cockatoo's. they are regular guests. but they are sooo demanding they actually sometimes come into the office and skwark to be fed. they are wild but we do feed them sunflower seeds (which I'm told is ok). I'll add a video soon.

The new Sign

A tongue in cheek quote for those sitting in the front garden
I admit I'm a little obsessive about the new sign. I think because I was never happy with the original one which I installed 7 years ago. (they had a spelling mistake and placed a plastic cover over it. - I always knew it was there). Anyway I Digress, it's in. It looks wonderful (yes I'm biased but I do think it does). It's also really well lit which makes it even better as people often can't find the place as the street numbers don't match and for some reason the sat nav's get it wrong. Anyway here is the new sign. The company that made it, is called Danthonia Designs. They are Brilliant and if you work with them, speak to Emmi. A pleasure to work with.
The New sign at Cremorne Point Manor

I have seen the Sign. and it's good!

Now that I have your attention. I want to you to know i'm being literal. It's actually the new Cremorne Manor Sign. Iv'e attached a photo of the old one and the pending new one. It should be arriving in the next day or so. Also note the little quote on the back of the sign. When you sit in the front balcony of the manor, you've always seen the back boring side of the sign. so I've decided to spice things up a bit and make it more interesting. What do you think?

A whale and Calf in Sydney Harbour

A truly amazing sight. for the past 2 days a Southern Right whale and her newborn calf are currently swimming around in Sydney harbour. it's only the 3rd time on record this has occurred and it quite a sight. You can see the whale from quite a few vantage points around the harbour (unfortunately it hasn't been spotted from the harbour view rooms at the manor as yet) But you never know. Either way it's a brilliant site and one worth having a look if you are in Sydney. Here is a photo taken yesterday by a news photographer.
and also a video from a  news organisation

New years eve at Cremorne Point Manor

Now I know it's July and New Years eve is not on everyone's mind. However The manor sells out every year for new years. and the reason is that it's basically one of the very best spots to watch the fireworks in Sydney. The close off the point to non residents after about 3pm on New years eve and you can't bring alcohol to the park. However as a guest of the hotel you can leisurely check in a couple of days before. Enjoy the location and then the absolutely spectacular views from the point.

The video above isn't mine, it's just from someone for last year's fireworks. As you can see it's amazing.and compared to the prices the city hotels charge for the rooms. The Cremorne Manor is an absolute bargain. So if you plans incude New Years in Sydney and you don't want to battle: The crowds, the lack of Taxi's, the packed public transport or the huge walk because you can't manage any of the above, then check out the Manor for a few days Rest and Relaxation. We also extend breakfast times for any sore heads from the night before!

Cremorne Point Manor Word Picture

People sometimes ask what the Cremorne Manor is like, it's hard to put it into words so I took everything about the manor and created what I think is a pretty little word picture that describes the hotel. Tell me what you think.

Radical Cars. Not hotels!

This isn't really a post about hotels. I was very lucky to receive as a gift a drive day with Radical Events Australia. I didn't really know what I was in for and I was so happy that I received such an amazing experience. I was well taken care of by Tony Palmer and his colleagues and frankly I was stunned by the awesome fun that driving a race car which can lap Eastern creek racetrack in the same time as a V8 super car. Now I know this is a blog about the Cremorne Manor. but if you have any interest in cars or racing. Then taking the wheel of a radical car is absolutely amazing experience. I got to drive for 6 laps and then was put in the passenger seat for 3 hot laps. Frankly it made me realise I'm hopeless at driving (compared to the professionals) I could barely keep my eyes on the road (which seemed to arrive extremely fast at each corner). However this was the most fun I've had in a car.

Our coffee is good, but not this good

A talented friend created this for me, and I thought I'd share it. It's real. not photoshopped. and while we don't do this for our guests as it took a long time to create, it's pretty cool.

The world of NFC

We recently. Changed all the locks to near field communication locks at the hotel and it has been brilliant. No only can we now give guests a credit card sized key. But it also is more secure and easier for guests to open the doors. I'm just waiting for the next tech jump where we can email guests the codes and then they walk straight to their rooms and use their phones to open the doors. Now that is pretty cool. Already Nokia have the phones. It I'm thinking we have to wait for old uncle apple to do it before everyone thinks its cool

twitter, foursquare, Facebook klout arghhh!

I run a small business, and I'm constantly trying to find ways to interact with my customers. It's sometimes hard and terribly confusing. I've got all these web pages and applications. I tweet etc etc. but frankly sometimes its just confusing. I would love to know what my customers want. and most of the time it's actually the old paper form in the rooms which gives me the most feedback. All of this new media acronyms etc are all well and good, but I'm not Justin Beiber and don't have millions of fans waiting on my every word. I try to run a lovely little hotel on sydney harbour and make sure all my customers are happy and frankly some of this stuff seems more trouble than it's worth.

Our Guests are Not Mugs

In today's Sydney Morning Herald. There is an article about how many of the 5 star hotels are treating guests like mugs, Charging $1 for a 1 minute local phone call and $30 a day for internet. I've experienced this many times in hotels and frankly it bugs me, Hence years ago I organised for free internet and free local calls from the Manor. Anyway here is the article. We strive to ensure we are not a 20th century business in the 21st century. Article

Review by Sydney Morning Herald

I'm excited to announce we have had an editorial in the Sydney Morning herald. Sydney's Largest newspaper by circulation. While I could have asked for a little bit more glowing, seeing as it's a real review and something I have no control over. I am very excited to have it: Click here to read
